G&D Farms is the largest contiguous strawberry production in North America, with 2,100 acres under management, and 800 acres of planted strawberries and pineberries – 150 of which is organic. From the north side of the property to the southern tip, the land stretches four miles. The Duette location is Wish Farms’ flagship growing operation that began in 1987.
We have a career opportunity available for a talented and motivated individual to join our team in Duette, Florida as the Food Safety Coordinator. The Food Safety Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing food safety practices on our strawberry farm. This role involves ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, conducting training for farm staff, and performing regular inspections to maintain the highest standards of food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and update food safety protocols, including Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure farm operations comply with local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Prepare for and manage internal and external audits and inspections. Including Organic audit.
- Maintain accurate records of food safety practices, inspections, training sessions, pesticide records, inventory, and compliance documents for both conventional and organic berries. Prepare reports as needed.
- Conduct training sessions for farm workers on food safety practices, proper handling procedures, hygiene standards, and equipment use.
- Regularly inspect fields, equipment, and facilities to ensure adherence to food safety protocols. Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate and address any food safety incidents or issues. Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Work closely with farm management and other departments to ensure seamless integration of food safety practices into daily operations.
- Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in food safety. Propose and implement improvements to enhance food safety protocols.
- Other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Positive attitude aligned with the Wish Farms culture
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Biology, or a related field or equivalent experience will be considered in place of formal education.
- Certifications in food safety (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field, preferably in an agricultural or farming environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations, GAP, and HACCP principles. Familiarity with strawberry cultivation and harvesting processes is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Bilingual a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with farm inspections.
