5 Steps to De-Stress and Take control of your High Blood Pressure

1. Meditate

Turn off your cell phone, turn off the tv and step away from the computer screen! Meditation isn’t just for the “hippies” anymore. Its proven to de- stress, refresh your mind and give you the boost you’ve needed! Give yourself  at least 5 minutes a day to sit or lay down and focus on your breathing. Never meditated before? Here’s how.

2. Drink Beet Juice

Drinking 17 ounces of beet juice can yield a five-point drop in blood pressure in just six hours, according to a 2012 Australian study. The crimson root veggie is rich in nitrates, which is thought to relax blood vessels and improve blood flow. If the sound of drinking beet juice makes you wanna hurl…we have a delicious recipe for you to try before you knock it! Check it out here!

3. Order Like a Vegetarian

Next time you’re dining out, opt for a veggie burger instead of meat. According to an analysis published in JAMA Internal Medicine, sticking to vegetarian fare can lower your blood pressure by up to 7 points – about the same drop you’d get from losing 11 pounds. Plant foods are low in blood pressure-raising sodium and high in blood pressure-lowering potassium. Meatless Monday anyone?

4. ONE WORD: BLUEBERRIES

If you know anything about us…you know that we stand 100% behind the health properties inside blueberries. We have featured blueberries in almost every single one of our health blogs to date!  The antioxidants in blueberries reduce stress by reducing the blood vessels in your face from high blood pressure.

5. Get Some Vitamin D

No…we don’t mean vitamin D from pill supplements! We mean that you need to get outside and get some rays! Low levels of vitamin D contribute to high blood pressure! Might as well kill two birds with one stone and exercise while your out there!
